Accounting Supervisor

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree business administration, accounting or finance and 2 years of professional experience in the accounting field; OR,

Associates degree in accounting or finance and 4 years of professional experience in the accounting field; OR,

Six years of professional level experience in accounting and operations.

1-3 years of Supervisory experience in accounting. Supervisory experience may be included with the years of experience as defined above.


SUMMARY

This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the accounting team responsible for the daily verification of the general ledger. This person assists the Accounting Manager with hiring, training, and evaluations of employees. This person will be responsible for managing the department in the absence of the Accounting Manager.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Possess extensive knowledge of and ability to perform all aspects and functions of the Accountant.
  • Review the daily work of the department and ensure the timely and accurate completion of the assigned paperwork.
  • Preparation of monthly account reconciliations with supporting schedules and information.
  • Identify variances and insure timely recording of necessary adjustments.
  • Preparation of monthly inventory reconciliations with supporting schedules and information.
  • Review of the TICS for compliance with all requirements for the Accounting department.
  • Maintain internal control systems by updating accounting programs and questionnaires, recommending new policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain the Accounting department procedures for compliance with the TICS
  • Reviews processes for compliance with GAAP and TICS where required.
  • Perform risk assessments on accounting processes.
  • Provides technical and systems training to accountants
  • Annual filing of Form 945, Form 1042 and any other required IRS forms.
  • Communicates internal and external audit findings by preparing a final report and discussing findings with accountants
  • Complies with all Tribal, State, and Federal Gaming Agencies and their rules and regulations
  • Adheres to regulatory, departmental, and company policies in an ethical manner
  • Maintains knowledge of all regulatory compliance policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Maintain strict security and confidence of all records and reports of the Accounting Department.
  • Other duties as assigned by Accounting Manager

OTHER NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Attention to detail and accuracy is essential as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and work independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Ability to work cooperatively with all departments. Ability to communicate and present ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and written. Must be computer literate, have working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and other computer software program(s). Demonstrate strong organizational skills. Proficient in use of 10 key adding machine and calculator are required.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision of the Accounting Employees.

Hiring and terminations of Accounting Employees.

Prepare and administer annual reviews of Accounting Department employees.


DRIVING RESPONSIBILITIES

Must have a valid, driver's license and be insurable by the Tribe's insurance carrier.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

Computer, copier, fax machine, multi-line phone system, ten-key adding machine, and other general office equipment.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

May be required to lift up to 25lbs. May also be required to reach, bend, stretch, kneel, crawl, lift and carry on occasion. Must be able to sit for extended periods.


TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to handle stressful situations while remaining focused and professional. Must be able to work productively under strict time restraints with variable deadlines. Able to collaborate with a diverse team.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a non-smoking office setting. Position will require occasional evenings, weekends and holidays. May be required to work over 40 hours per week. Some local and out of town travel may be required for further training and/or for the needs of the position.


COMMENTS

Tribal Preference and/or Native American Preference will apply. Must be able to pass a background investigation, drug, and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to work flexible hours and to take on additional responsibilities when asked. Must adhere to company policies regarding strict confidentiality.
